Fire Prevention Week is usually held the first week of October here at our school.  Local firemen from the municipalities of Catasauqua, North Catasauqua, and Hanover Township visit Sheckler to present various fire prevention activities.  Students are shown fire fighting equipment and vehicles and some partcipate in a simulated escape from a smoke-filled trailer. In addition, the students may enter a coloring contest or poster contest with fire safety themes.  Awards and certificates are presented to the winners by the firemen.

The end of October is a special time at Sheckler when  we have our annual Halloween Parade. Students and teachers wear festive costumes and parade through the neighborhood, escorted by the High School Band and a fire truck from the Catasauqua Fire Department.  After the parade, each class has their own Halloween party, which includes ice cream purchased by the Home and School Association.

The Thursday before Thanksgiving is the day of the special Sheckler Thanksgiving Dinner and Food Drive. Family and friends are invited to join the students in a delicious meal prepared in the cafeteria and served by Sheckler teachers!  Students are encouraged to bring in canned goods and other dry goods that are then donated to the local food bank.

Christmas Giving Projects invite Sheckler students and their families to join in the spirit of giving to those less fortunate.  The Toys for Tots Campaign encourages students to donate new toys that are then given to children of local families who might not otherwise get any toys for the holiday.  The Giving Tree Project enables Sheckler students to bring in small gift items that are placed on or under a Christmas Tree in the school cafeteria. These gifts are given to the Catasauqua Food Bank and then distributed to needy families in the area.

All students at Sheckler take part in Grade Level Productions. These shows take place on the stage and are presented to all students  during the day and again to family and friends in the evening. The Sheckler third grade classes present a muscial production in early November. The fourth grade students and teachers present an annual Christmas musical production just before the holidays.  In the Spring, first and second grade students present separate musical productions, and in June, the Kindergarten kids perform musical numbers on the stage.

In late April or early May, the students at Sheckler are encouraged to participate in Sheckler TV Turn-Off Week. Many students attempt  to survive a whole week "Cold Turkey" and not watch television.  As an incentive, "Cold Turkey" winners receive a certificate, an Ice Cream Sundae Party with the Principal,  aspecially designed T-Shirt, and other prizes. Each year, over 60% of the students are successful in the project, and discover many alternatives to watching TV.

The Sheckler Yearbook is a popular remembrance of the year for most Sheckler students. The yearbook contains pictures of each student on a class page along with their teacher.  It also has pictures of all Sheckler staff members and snapshots of various activities from the school year. Copies of the Sheckler Yearbook are ordered in May and are distributed in early June.
