Expressive Arts
Sheckler's
Expressive Arts program provides all students in grades one to four
with
special instruction in Physical Education, Computer and Television
Technology,
Art, Music, and Library. Grade level classes go to one of the
five
Expressive Arts for a 50 minute period each day.

During
Technology class, students develop their technological skills through
various activities. In the computer room, they learn the skills
needed
to effectively utilize a vast educational software library including
network
software and CD-ROM programs. They learn to use word processing,
desktop
publishing, and presentation software, incorporating images from clip
art,
a digital camera, or a scanner. Under direct teacher supervision,
older students learn effective internet search strategies to find
information
for reports or projects.
In the Sheckler TV
Studio, students learn the proper care and operation
of all equipment necessary to produce a video or television program.
They
also develop their public speaking skills through news shows, game
shows,
book talks, and planned speeches. The students learn basic media
literacy by studying TV advertising and analyzing their television
viewing
habits. In addition, they learn to build lego projects by following
picture
diagrams.
During Library class, Sheckler students learn the various sections of
the
Library and develop an appreciation for many types of literature.
They select books to read acccording to appropriate reading levels and
also become aware of all the available resources in the Library. In
addition,
students use computers to coordinate with books and to do research on
various
topics.
