Located less than five minutes from the Lehigh Valley International Airport, Rt. 22, and the Lehigh Valley Mall area, the boroughs of Catasauqua and North Catasauqua are home to approximately 9,000 residents.  These two municipalities, along with Hanover Township, Lehigh County, comprise the Catasauqua Area School District.

The name "Catasauqua" is derived from the dialect of the Lenni-Lenape Indian tribe who inhabited this area of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.  Originally known for its iron industry and silk mills, "Catty" is a small town that has retained its rich cultural heritage.  Presently, Catasauqua is a suburban community in close proximity to Allentown, Bethlehem, Northampton, and numerous industrial parks.

The three schools in the Catasauqua Area School District include Sheckler Elementary School - for students in kindergarten to fourth grade, Catasauqua Middle School - for students in grades 5 to 8, and the Catasauqua High School - for students in grades 9 to 12.  The total enrollment of the district is over 1700 students and the teaching staff includes 130 full-time teachers and 27 instructional aides or part-time teachers.
