Special Services
Sheckler offers many special services and opportunities for the students at our school. These include:
Health - each day the school nurse deals with minor accidents or illnesses and provides the following health services: maintains emergency cards, immunization records, and health histories; conducts annual height and weight measurements, vision screenings, and hearing screenings; maintains records of physical and dental records; and arranges dental exams for third graders.
Title I Reading Program - Title I is a supplemental Reading Intervention program designed to provide students with the “extra help” they need to succeed. Title I students will be provided with a 35 minute session each day outside of the regular classroom. The Sonday Reading Intervention Program will be implemented for all Title I students. This program is designed to reinforce phonetic, comprehension and writing skills. In addition to the Sonday program, students will continue with Guided Reading. The goal of the Title I program is to eventually have the students move back to the regular classroom.
Successmaker Software - Sheckler has an individualized computer reading program (CCC) that is utilized on a daily basis at each grade level. In the software program, each student is placed according to their reading level and progresses through various reading strands to develop their skills in phonics and comprehension.
Speech - the Speech/Language Support Teachers screen, test, and hold speech/language classes for eligible students.
Guidance - the school guidance counselor teaches lessons, works with individuals and small groups, consults with parents, and coordinates services with outside agencies.
Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation - the school district psychologists administer testing to students who may be eligible for special education and also chair multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Special Education - the school district Special Education staff provide services for students in need of specially designed instruction.
