Summer 2025 SUN Bucks / EBT Benefits

We are excited to share that families in our district may be eligible to receive Summer 2025 SUN Bucks (EBT) Benefits to help cover the cost of groceries when school is out.

 

Benefits have not yet been issued. If your child is automatically eligible, you can expect to receive the SUN Bucks benefit before the end of July. Use the Eligibility Navigator to determine if your child is automatically eligible for SUN Bucks or whether you will need to apply. Got questions? 🥕 What Are SUN Bucks?

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a new program funded by the USDA to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer months when school meals are not available.

Eligible families will receive $120 per eligible child on an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card that works like a debit card to buy groceries.

✅ Who Is Eligible?

Your child may be eligible if they:

  • Receive free or reduced-price school meals

  • Are enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid

  • Attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program

No application may be required for families already enrolled in these programs. Others may need to apply — details below.

📝 How to Receive SUN Bucks

  • Automatic Enrollment:
    If your family already receives SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid, SUN Bucks will be loaded to your EBT card automatically.

  • Application Required:
    If your child is not automatically enrolled, you may need to submit an online application.  Most children who get Medicaid are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks because their income level is under the income level for the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program. Children who get Medicaid through the Children with Special Needs category (PH 95) and children who are in the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) will have to apply for SUN Bucks.

  • Applications received after August 31, 2025 will be considered for SUN Bucks benefits in summer 2026.

🗓 Important Dates

  • Benefit Amount: $120 per eligible child

  • Distribution Begins: Benefits for Summer of 2025 will begin being issued to all eligible children in mid-July.

  • Funds Must Be Used By: After the SUN Bucks benefit is issued, you have four (4) months to spend the benefit. After four months, you will no longer be able to use the benefit.
