ParentSquare District Communication
The Catasauqua Area School District utilizes ParentSquare as our approved method of Parent / Teacher communication.
Once signed in, parents will begin to receive messages from classroom teachers, along with building and district-wide announcements. Parents also have the ability to send private, direct messages to their child's classroom teacher(s).
By default, individuals listed as "Mother" and "Father" in PowerSchool are automatically assigned to their child in ParentSquare. Additional individuals, such as step-parents or grandparents with custody of their student, need to request access to ParentSquare communications by contacting their student's Main Office.
To get started in ParentSquare:
- Download the ParentSquare app to your mobile device (recommended). ParentSquare can also be accessed through a web browser at parentsquare.com
- Sign up by using the email address on file in PowerSchool
- A verification code will be sent to that email address. Copy and paste the code into the ParentSquare app
- Verify that the student(s) associated with your account are correct. If they are incorrect, or a student is missing, please contact your student's Main Office.
- After confirming your students, you will be taken to the ParentSquare home screen.
Reccomended ParentSquare Notification Settings:
Parents can choose to receive ParentSquare messages through the app, text, or as an email.
If you use the ParentSquare mobile app (our preferred method), you can safely turn off text and email alerts. This ensures you stay informed without the "over-notification" of receiving the same message three different ways.
PSQ Mobile App Instructions:
- From the Home Screen, tap the Menu (triple bars) on the top left.
- Select Account.
- Select Notifications.
- Use the toggle to turn on or off notifications by email, text and app.
- Select Instant or Digest for each mode.
- Note: Digest is recommended – you will receive one notification per day, for all non-urgent posts, in the evening.
- Instant messages can override your digest settings. These messages would only be sent by a building Principal or District Administration (schools closing early for weather, etc.)
- When you're finished, your settings may look something like this (depending on your preferences)
Setting your Native Language in ParentSquare:
Parents can set their preferred language to receive all messages, posts, and alerts. Any messages sent back to the teacher in another language will automatically translate to English.
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu (triple bars) on the top-left (mobile app)
- Select Account.
- Select Preferences.
- Select Language.
- Scroll through the list and tap on your language.
The Digest Function Explained:
The Digest function is a highly recommended setting that helps manage the volume of communications you receive.
- What it does: The Digest bundles all non-urgent school notifications (posts, reminders, sign-ups, etc.) into a single, easy-to-read message delivered once per day.
- When it arrives: Digest messages come through at 6:00 PM each night.
- Urgent Messages: All urgent notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message. (For example, a ParentSquare message sent out to announce an early dismissal due to snow.)
